This iconic sandwich features tender, flavorful smoked meat piled high on rye bread, served with mustard and pickles. A true Montreal classic!
Ingredients
☐1 lb (450 g) Montreal-style smoked meat, sliced
☐4 slices rye bread
☐Dijon mustard to taste
☐Pickles for serving
☐1/2 cup (80 g) coleslaw (optional)
☐1 slice Swiss cheese (optional)
☐Salt and pepper to taste
☐1 tablespoons olive oil (for toasting bread)
Directions
Heat a skillet over medium heat with olive oil.
Toast the rye bread slices until golden brown.
Layer slices of smoked meat generously on one slice of bread.
Add optional Swiss cheese and coleslaw if desired.
Spread Dijon mustard on the other slice and close the sandwich.
Slice in half and serve with pickles on the side.
